What is 5-Card Stud Poker?
One of the most popular games in American, poker bears a close similarity to the Middle-Eastern game of As Nas. It was first brought to the US by Persian sailors. The modern day version is believed to have 1st been played in the New Orleans on the steamboats of the early 1800's. Since then, many different forms of the game developed by introducing a variety of hands like a , full house, flush, straight, and more.
How Do You Play 5-Card Poker?
The object of the game of 5 Card Stud Poker is to have the best hand on the table and win the "pot" of money in the middle. What makes the game so interesting is that players can see not all, but some of the cards their opponents have. From this, they can form strategies to win.
Play begins with each player putting an ante bet on the table. They are then each are dealt two cards - a pocket card and a visible card. Next, the player with the lowest value card starts the betting. There is a round of betting and afterwards each player is dealt another card. After that card is dealt, there is another round of betting. Then there is another card dealt and another round of betting, followed by the final card dealt. Now all players have 4 cards face up and one face down. Then is the final round of betting. All remaining players display their hand. The highest hand wins the pot.
Rules Of the Game
According to normal poker rules, playing and betting moves in a clockwise direction. All Players are required to ante before they receive their initial cards. There are four rounds of betting in a complete game of 5 Card Stud, not including the ante. During the first round of betting, the player with the lowest value door card starts the betting. That bet is equal to at least half the minimum bet for the game. In the next rounds, the player with the highest hand starts the betting. In cases where hands tie, the Player to the left of the dealer moves first.
Betting increments in the game determine the bets. For example, in a game of $2 and $4 betting increments, the first 2 rounds of betting and raising are set at the lower level of $2. The other 3 rounds of betting and raising are set at the higher level of $4. The max. allowable number of bets per Player during any betting round is 4. This includes a bet, raise, re-raise, and cap. The term "cap" is used to describe the 3rd raise in a round since betting is then capped and can't be raised any more. When capped, players have the option of calling or folding. In betting rounds where players have folded, the first active player left of the dealer is first to act.
